Anomalies are deadly manifestations of the Zone in which the laws of physics do not work the way you expect. When traveling in the Zone, you can't let your guard down even in seemingly safe places, because one careless step into an anomaly will end your entire journey.

There are different types of anomalies: fire anomalies burn to the bone, gravitational anomalies can literally tear you to pieces, acid anomalies corrode equipment in a matter of moments, and electric anomalies strike with a powerful electric shock. There are other, even more formidable types of anomalies that you will have to explore on your own.

To avoid anomalies, be extremely careful at every step. A specific sound will warn you that an anomaly is nearby, but don't rely on it alone, listen carefully and look closely at your surroundings. Did you notice the air flickering or pulsating, or hear a crack? Throw a bolt in there to check it out.

Some experienced stalkers say that they lure enemies into the anomalies, but who knows, maybe they are just campfire stories.

1. Anomalous fields

Anomalous fields are a cluster of many anomalies in a small area. Such places are especially dangerous. It is here that you can find artifacts - rare and valuable creatures of the Zone - but you need to be careful and dexterous, because the first mistake can cost you your life.

2. Anomaly detector

Every stalker has one, no one is stupid enough to venture into the Zone without this vital device. This detector alerts you to nearby anomalies with sound, and the more frequent the sound, the closer the anomaly is.

3. Using bolts

Experienced stalkers use bolts to detect anomalies. They are thrown in front of them - when the bolt hits an anomaly, it is triggered and the danger becomes visible.

Some anomalies are discharged when the bolt hits, making it possible to run right through them. But it's only for a few seconds, so don't delay!

To use bolts, select them instead of weapons by pressing 6 on the keyboard or Tab to select a bolt from the radial menu. On the gamepad, press LB to open the radial menu and select a bolt from it.

Bolts will become available to you after you complete the game's prologue.
