Fighting in the Zone is always a challenge. If you act recklessly, you can easily become a prey even in a battle with a seemingly weak opponent. Ammo is always in short supply, equipment wears out quickly, and enemies are smart and rarely act alone. So first and foremost, assess your chances. Before you rush into battle, examine the area, find shelter, and assess whether you have enough resources.
- Use cover. Staying in the open is a direct way to get shot. Use buildings or trees to hide from enemy fire.
- Keep track of where the enemy is. The compass will help you with this - if an enemy is nearby but you haven't spotted it yet, the compass will have a red highlight. Human and zombie enemies that you can see will be shown by red triangles on the compass.
- Calculate the distance. The closer you are to the enemy, the easier it is to damage them, but the enemies will also hit you more accurately and more sensibly. At a distance, you can fire at the enemy relatively safely, but it requires accuracy and the right weapon.
- Choose the right weapon, ammunition, and fire mode. Learn more about weapons.
- Save ammo. Try to shoot in short bursts or single shots to conserve ammunition. What to do if you run out of ammunition at the wrong time.
- Grenades are your friends. When enemies are hiding behind cover or in a building, a grenade will help you get them and force them out into the open. But beware, a grenade thrown poorly or not far enough can hurt you more than your enemies. And don't forget that the enemy also has grenades. If you see one flying in your direction, run away quickly or hide. It is said that a particularly skilled shooter can detonate a grenade with a shot in flight.
- Always have a few first aid kits and bandages to quickly restore your health in battle and stop bleeding.
- Keep an eye on the condition of your equipment and visit your technician in a timely manner. If a broken weapon gets jammed during a fight, your chances of survival will be dramatically reduced.
- Don't be afraid to retreat. If you see that the situation is not in your favor, it is better to step back and try again later, with renewed resources and better preparation.
- Use stealth. Sometimes the best battle is the one you avoided. You can get past enemies unnoticed by taking advantage of the darkness or rainy weather. This is easier with humans because they only rely on sight, while mutants have a sense of smell. The faster you move, the more sound you make. Walking slowly or crouching down is less likely to attract unwanted attention, while running noisily can give you away to enemies. Shots from different weapons also differ in volume. A silencer will help reduce the noise of the shot and give you a chance to go unnoticed even in a firefight.
- Hidden assassination. To kill someone without making too much noise, sneak up on them and stab them.
